Montreal, Jul 4 (IBNS): At least six people have died due to intense heat wave sweeping large parts of Canada, media reports said.
Five provinces have been gripped by the heat wave.
Montreal is one of the five provinces which suffered the most due to high temperature.
The temperature in Montreal rose to almost 35 degrees on Monday afternoon.
Public Health officials told CTV News that most of the deceased people were diagnosed with chronic diseases or mental health problems.
All the victims were without air conditioning.
Montreal's regional director of Public Health, Dr. Mylene Drouin, told CTV News, "Usually in a normal situation we have 10 deaths per day, so we're not in an excess of mortality."
Fire crews are expected to offer cooler places to 5,000 families to avoid the heat.
In Ottawa, the temperature is well above 30 degrees since last Friday.
The heat wave is expected to continue till Friday, this week.
