Canada PM Justin Trudeau greets all Indians on India's 72nd Independence Day
Ottawa, Aug 15 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau greeted all Indians on the occasion of India's 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday.
Trudeau joined the Indo-Canadian community on the occasion of the Independence Day.
Issuing a statement, Trudeau said: "Canada and India share much in common, from the similar institutions and forms of government that underpin our democracies, to the tremendous people-to-people connections at the heart of our two countries’ longstanding friendship.
"Today, we work together in a range of areas, including education and innovation, trade and investment, and climate change."
The Prime Minister also emphasised on the contributions made by several Canadians, who are rooted to India.
Trudeau said: "I invite Canadians to recognize the important contributions that the more than one million Canadians of Indian ancestry make to the building and shaping of our great country."
On Aug 15, India, the largest democracy of the world presently, was freed from the British rule.
Trudeau had visited India early this year and also met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
