Nanaimo, Aug 22 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday interacted with British Columbia Premier John Horgan to discuss the present situation of wildfires and its impact on the province.

At present, 565 wildlfires are active in BC.

More than 20,000 people are on evacuation alert or evacuation order, CBC News reported.

Tweeting a picture of his meeting with Horgan, Trudeau said: "This afternoon, Premier @jjhorgan and I met in Nanaimo to talk about the urgent and long-term impacts of the BC wildfires - and how the federal government can support people on the ground and help with recovery & rebuilding efforts."

Trudeau will also meet the first responders and the affected people due to wildfire on Thursday.

The Prime Minister has been quoted by CBC News as saying, "Our thoughts are with the first responders, the firefighters and the residents who are struggling through the wildfires that are raging across the province."

"Obviously this is something that is very much a topic of conversation that we'll be engaged in."

In dismay, Horgan, who toured the affected areas, called the situation as "new normal".

"We're concerned — all of us — that this may be the new normal," Horgan was quoted by CBC News.
