Ottawa, Oct 1 (IBNS): After a series of talks and discussions over a renewed North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the US and Canada have finally reached at a trade agreement.

Canada Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland tweeted to inform the two countries along with Mexico have agreed upon a new trade deal, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Freeland's tweet reads, "Tonight, Canada and the United States reached an agreement, alongside Mexico, on a new and modern trade agreement, called the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (#USMCA)."

A joint statement issued by Freeland and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer stated, "......the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). USMCA will give our workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses a high-standard trade agreement that will result in freer markets, fairer trade and robust economic growth in our region.

"It will strengthen the middle class, and create good, well-paying jobs and new opportunities for the nearly half billion people who call North America home.

"We look forward to further deepening our close economic ties when this new agreement enters into force.

“We would like to thank Mexican Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo for his close collaboration over the past 13 months.”

Replying to Freeland's tweet, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said more information about the deal will be revealed on Monday.

Trudeau said in a tweet, "A good day for Canada & our closest trading partners. More tomorrow..."
