Toronto, Oct 24 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has congratulated John Tory for winning the Mayoral election of Toronto.

Tory has secured 63 percent of votes leaving 23 percent for rival candidate Jennifer Keesmat, who is the former chief city planner.

Congratulating Tory, Trudeau, who belongs to the Liberal Party, tweeted, "Congratulations to John Tory, re-elected as @TorontosMayor tonight. Let’s keep up the momentum we’ve built working together for people in Canada’s biggest city."

In his victory speech, Tory said as he has been quoted by National Post, "I want to acknowledge Jennifer Keesmaat, who brought ideas forward which I’m sure we’ll discuss in the coming days.”

The election took place after Ontario Premier Doug Ford slashed the number of council seats from 47 to 25.
