Toronto, Jan 12 (IBNS): International Hindi Day (IHD) and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) were celebrated on July 10 by Dinesh Bhatia, Cons Gen of India Toronto, in presence of a large Indian diaspora at the office of Consulate General.
Bhatia in his speech said that his office would be celebrating both IHD and PBD that day.
On Jan 10, 1975, the first International Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur, India, Bhatia said.
Since then IHD is celebrated all over the world on Jan 10 each year.
Bhatia said his office also celebrates IHD on January 10 each year.
Other places where these conferences were held were Trinidad, United Kingdom, United States, and 11th PBD conference was held in Mauritius.
Bhatia said another event National Bhartiya Diwas (NHD) is also celebrated all over India on Sept 14.
PBD, which is also being celebrated by Bhatia that day, is celebrated each year on Jan 9.
The significance of the celebration of PBD, said Bhatia, was that it was on Jan 9,1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest leaders of India had come back to India from South Africa.
This event is celebrated to give tribute to Mahatma Gandhi since, added Bhatia, there was no greater Indian man than him, Bhatia said.
Bhatia said that his office had been celebrating PBD since 2003.
Till then,14 PBD had been celebrated, continued Bhatia and the 15th PBD would be celebrated in Varanasi, India from Jan 19, 20 and 21, 2019.
