Washingon, Jan 18 (IBNS): A top North Korean official has arrived in Washington in order to negotiate with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for a second possible meeting between two top leaders of the country, media reports said.

"A plane from Beijing carrying Kim Yong-chol, known as one of the closest aides to leader Kim Jong-un, and his entourage touched down at Dulles International Airport," reported South Korean news agency Yonhap.

As per CNN report, Kim arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport Thursday evening and was spotted leaving the airport with US Special Representative to North Korea Steve Biegun and Pak Chol, a North Korean official who's the chairman of the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump met for the first time last year.

The meeting took place in Singapore in June.

According to reports, the North Korean official is likely to meet Pompeo on Friday to discuss over the possible meeting of the two leaders.

Yonhap reported that he is likely to pay a courtesy call on U.S. President Donald Trump and convey to him a letter from Kim Jong-un.

What did Trump say on a possible second meeting recently?

It was during Singapore meeting that the two leaders had issued a commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

US President Donald Trump later last year said his next meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is likely to take place in 2019.

Trump had said the second summit with the North Korean leader might take place in January or February.

"We're getting along very well," Trump was quoted as saying by CNN telling to reporters aboard Air Force One during the return trip from the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"We have a good relationship with Kim," he said.

When asked if Kim would come to the US for a visit apart from the second summit, Trump was quoted as saying by CNN "at some point" he will.
