After getting acquitted by Pakistan court, Aasia Bibi heads to Canada
Islamabad/Ottawa, Jan 29 (IBNS): After getting acquitted by her country's top court over blasphemy, Pakistani Christian woman, Aasia Bibi, is heading to Canada to unite with her daughters, media reports said.
Bibi's daughters had earlier fled to Canada. Canada provided asylum to Bibi's daughters.
Bibi has already spent eight years on death row in a blasphemy case.
The petitioner was not able to point out any mistake in the Supreme Court verdict acquitting Bibi, said the CJP, ending Bibi's final legal hurdle, reported Dawn News.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel gave the crucial decision which provided relief to the Christian woman.
"Based on merit, this review petition is dismissed," Chief Justice Khosa was quoted as saying by Geo News during the hearing at the apex court, which overturned Bibi´s death sentence for blasphemy last year.
"You could not point out [even] a single mistake in the Supreme Court's verdict," the top judge told the petitioner's lawyer.
Protests and release from prison:
The Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) had protested against the three-day-long mass protest against the acquittal of the Christian woman.
Bibi was released from prison in Multan on Nov 7. She was flown to Islamabad and has been shifted to an undisclosed place amid tight security.
