Ottawa, Feb 13 (IBNS): Canadian man Mohammed Ali, who fought for ISIS for four years, now wants to return home with the help of the Canadian government, media reports said.

Ali (28) said the ISIS is now abandoning its foreign militants as it is losing ground against Kurdish fighters, who are backed by the US.

The Canadian man said it is no longer safe to stay in Syria.

"Why shouldn't I be able to go home? I've done nothing in Canada. I've broken no laws there at all," Ali, who has a wife and two children. has been quoted by CTV News.

Ali along with his family had attempted to flee but were caught by coalition-led forces.

All four have been lodged in a prison for last nine months.

Fearing ISIS militants have militants, Ali has been quoted by CTV News, "They have pockets in the desert; they've got people intermingling with the population, acting as civilians -- just biding their time."
