Canada: Cannabis stores in Ontario set to open today
Toronto, Apr 1 (IBNS): The first brick-and-mortal cannabis stores in Ontario are all set to open on Monday, media reports said.
Ontario's Progressive Conservative government had planned to launch 25 stores on Apr 1.
However, it is not yet clear how many stores will be ready to operate.
Some stores, which may not be ready to operate from Monday, are working still through lengthy approval process.
Before Apr 1, recreational cannabis was available for purchase only through government-run website.
Though initially the Ontario government had said there would be no cap on the number of retail shops, only 25 stores were issued licenses citing "national supply issues".
Stores failing to open on Monday will face escalating penalties.
