Improve or will stop funding: Trump gives 30 day ultimatum to WHO chief
Washington/IBNS: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday took to Twitter and shared a three page letter to World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in which he has issued a 30-day ultimatum to the UN health body to make "substantive improvements" over repeated missteps in handling the coronavirus pandemic and siding with China in hiding important information.
He accused WHO of consistently ignoring credible reports of coronavirus spreading in China in early Dec 2019 or even earlier.
“The WHO failed to independently investigate credible reports that conflicted directly with the Chinese government’s official accounts, even those that came from sources within Wuhan itself,” he said in the letter.
In the letter, he alleged that the WHO was aware of a major health concern emerging in Wuhan, which was also raised by Taiwan.
“But the WHO chose not to share any of this critical information with the rest of the world, probably for political reasons.”

Even after declaring coronavirus outbreak, WHO didn't ensure timely admittance of an international medical team into China.
He even added just a few years ago under a different Director-General, the WHO showed the world how much it has to offer.
“It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organisation in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world,” Trump said adding, “The only way forward for the WHO is if it can can actually demonstrate independence from China.”
“If the WHO does not commit to major substantive improvements within the next 30 days, I will make my temporary freeze of United States funding to the WHO permanent and reconsider our membership in the organization,” Trump told UN health body chief Tedros in the letter.
