Joe Biden could take US back to Paris Climate Deal, WHO: Reports
Washington/UNI: US President-elect Joe Biden plans to make the US part of the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organisation(WHO) soon after being sworn in, media reports said on Sunday.
A report by Washington Post claimed that Biden plans to sign a number of executive orders which includes the Paris Agreement and the WHO membership. Donald Trump had pulled the US out of these two.
According to Trump, the Paris Agreement, a multi-nation pact to keep the global temperature at low levels and minimise the use of fossil fuels, was against the US economy.
Trump had stated that the agreement, signed by Barack Obama in 2015, keeps the US in a disadvantageous position and hurts his "America First" policy. He had officially announced the withdrawal in 2017, which took three years for final acceptance.
For the WHO, Trump had views that the health organisation allegedly failed to sound an alarm of novel coronavirus at the right time and showed 'bias' towards China despite the US being the topmost donor.
As per the report, Biden also plans to establish a program that would allow migrants who came to the US in childhood to remain in the country.
Trump, had been very critical over immigration and many times championed for anti-immigration laws.
