US CENCOM says its forces destroyed Houthi surface-to-air missile
The United States on Wednesday said its forces struck and destroyed a Houthi surface-to-air missile that posed an imminent threat to US aircraft.
"Jan. 31 at approximately 3:30 p.m. (Sanaa time), USCENTCOM forces struck and destroyed a Houthi surface-to-air missile prepared to launch," US CENTCOM said in a statement.
"U.S. forces identified the missile in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined that it presented an imminent threat to U.S. aircraft," the statement said.
The US said another anti-ship ballistic missile shot from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen was also destroyed.
"On Jan. 31, at approximately 8:30 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired one anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen toward the Gulf of Aden. The missile was successfully shot down by the USS Carney (DDG 64). At 9:10 p.m, the CENTCOM released statement said.
"The USS Carney engaged and shot down three Iranian UAVs in its vicinity," the statement said.
No damage or injury was caused due to the attacks.
