Ottawa, Nov 9 (IBNS): The Canadian Prime Minister congratulated Donald Trump on his triumphant victory as the next US President, and promised to work with him closely to strengthen trade and international security.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office in Canada, Trudeau said, "Canada has no closer friend, partner, and ally than the United States. We look forward to working very closely with president-elect Trump, his administration, and with the United States Congress in the years ahead, including on issues such as trade, investment, and international peace and security.”

Trudeau further impinges on the fact, "The relationship between our two countries serves as a model for the world. Our shared values, deep cultural ties, and strong integrated economies will continue to provide the basis for advancing our strong and prosperous partnership."

A classic statesman like Trudeau, avoided making any comments or criticism of Trumo during the campaign, despite the revelation that the Republican nominee made some lewd and sexist comments.
Having said so, team Trudeau issued a fundraising email ahead of September’s first presidential debate calling the campaign a “fundamental choice” amidst opposing values

The email read, "Hope or fear? Diversity or division? Openness and inclusion, or turning our backs on the world?” Thereby leaving everyone to guess whom the Liberal Trudeau government was vouching as the right fit for the White House.

Rona Ambrose, Interim Conservative Leader also congratulated Trump on his success, and in her statement mentioned that the governments should work together to protect the National Free tRade Agreement (NAFTA) and endorse for the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).

She also stressed that the governments must work together to resolve the softwood lumber dispute and approve a contentious pipeline project soon.

"President-elect Trump has made it clear that he supports the Keystone XL pipeline, as has Prime Minister Trudeau. The Conservative Party of Canada calls upon the prime minister to reach out to president-elect Trump‎ at the earliest opportunity and make approval of this job-creating project a top priority," she said.
