1968 Democratic presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy's assassin Sirhan Sirhan recommended for parole

Washington/UNI: A Californian parole board on Friday voted to release from prison the assassin of 1968 Democratic presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy (RFK), media reported on Saturday.

Sirhan Sirhan who had fatally shot the Democratic frontrunner after the latter had given a speech at a Los Angeles hotel, arguably altering the course of history has been in prison for 53 years now, the BBC reported.

The vote, which establishes that Sirhan Sirhan is no longer a public threat, does not necessarily guarantee that he will walk free from prison.

The final decision on Sirhan Sirhan's fate now lies in the hands of Californian Governor Gavin Newsom.
