Dhaka/UNI: Eleven fishing trawlers carrying at least 150 fishermen have capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata Patuakhali District in Bangladesh due to rough weather.

Out of them, 34 fishermen are still missing.

These accidents took place at different points of the Bay from Friday noon to 10 p.m.

Ansar Uddin Mollah, President of Alipur- Kuakata Fish Storehouse Owners’ Association and Raju Ahmed Raja, President of Mohipur Storehouse Owners’ Association, confirmed the matter to UNI on Saturday.

Fishermen said that the trawlers capsized in the Bay due to a ferocious storm.

Later, 116 fishermen were recovered but 34 others are still missing.

The recovered people were admitted to different hospitals, including the 20-bed Kuakata Hospital and Mohipur Deputy Health Centre.

Selim Mondol, Contingent Commander of Nizampur Coastguards, said his office was informed about the matter.

"Our patrolling team is in the Bay and the rescue operation is underway" he said.
