Kathmandu, Jul 23 (Xinhua/UNI) At least eight people died while four others have gone missing due to landslides triggered by rains in Gulmi district of western Nepal, local authorities said here on Tuesday.

District administrator Yadunath Poudel told Xinhua that eight people were killed and four others went missing when their houses collapsed in two remote villages of Satyawati rural municipality in Gulmi, some 250 kilometers west of the country's capital Kathmandu.

Poudel said that two other people were rescued alive during the search operation.

The local administration has deployed teams to conduct rescue operations, he said. Public transportation has been disrupted in the landslides-hit villages since Monday night.

Nepal has witnessed heavy rainfall during the monsoon season this year. According to the country's Ministry of Home Affairs, at least 95 people were killed and 35 people went missing across Nepal due to monsoon-induced disasters in the past few weeks.
