Afghanistan: Taliban put up posters across Kabul, asking women to cover up

Kabul: The Taliban members of Afghanistan have put up posters across Kabul where they directed women to cover up.

This is the latest restriction imposed on the Afghan women by the Taliban government.

The poster, which includes an image of the face-covering burqa, was slapped on cafes and shops this week by the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, reported AFP news agency.

"According to Sharia law, Muslim women must wear the hijab," the poster reads, referring to the practice of covering up as quoted by the news agency report.

A spokesman for the ministry, responsible for enforcing the Taliban's harsh interpretation of Islamic law, confirmed to AFP on Friday that it was behind the orders.

The Taliban introduced several limitations for women ever since they came to power last year.

The Taliban captured power in Afghanistan on Aug 15 after taking control over Kabul.
