Bangladesh COVID-19 cases rises to 51

Dhaka/UNI:  Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh rose to 51 as the country on Tuesday recorded two more infections.

And six more patients recovered from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery to 25.

The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) director Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora made the disclosure on Tuesday through online live briefing.

Samples of 140 more people were examined in last 24 hours and among them two tested positive for the oronavirus but no death was reported, she said.

The newly infected two are male, ages 57 and 55 respectively, and they doing well, the IEDCR official said, adding that the 57-year-old came from Saudi Arabia while the rest has no travel history.

Five people, so far, died from COVID-19 since Bangladesh reported its first cases of the epidemic on March 8.

Gradually rise of the coronavirus cases in Bangladesh prompted the government to announce 10-day general holiday from March 26 to April 4, shut all educational institutions, put some areas on lockdown, shut down all bars, and impose restrictions on all kinds of political, social, cultural and religious gatherings in an effort to stem the spread of the virus.

The new coronavirus pandemic, first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, kept spreading to newer countries.

The deadly virus spread to 200 countries and territories, killing some 38,090 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 789,218 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 166,441 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
