Ouagadougou/IBNS: At least 35 civilians, mainly women, were killed as terrorists attacked in Burkina Faso's northern province of Soum, media reports said on Wednesday.

They say seven soldiers and 80 militants were killed as the army repelled Tuesday's attack in Arbinda, the northern Soum province, BBC reported.

"As a result of that cruel attack, 35 civilians, mainly women, have been killed. I offer my sincere condolences to the families of the victims," country's  President Roch Marc Christian Kabore said in a statement.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Burkina Faso has been suffering from activities of Islamist groups linked to al-Qaeda and Islamic State terrorist organizations (both banned in Russia) since 2016.
