Canada offers free Covid vaccines for visitors

Toronto/IBNS: While visitor inflow continues as border operations function under strict control, the government of Canada showed its benevolence by offering the priced COVID 19 vaccines free of cost to visitors in the country.

Though border restrictions are still in place, flights are bringing visitors of Canadian families- be it nationals or PR holders to Canada regularly. It is common knowledge that the people who are travelling in this crisis situation are not travelling for tourism but for emergency travels.

In this crisis situation as part of the government’s three phase vaccination programs running across different parts of Ontario, parents/ relatives of Canadian nationals or residents who qualify the age group specifications can get their first dose of vaccines from any registered centers in the province.

“All you need is to go to the online portal, book an appointment of your qualifying parent with your home address in the region you live in,” informed an executive from the York region vaccine coordination helpline center.

“The process is simple, you need to accompany him/her in the clinic and show your residence proof and his/her age proof and you can get him/her vaccinated.”

As cases kept rising higher and higher in different parts of GTA (Greater Toronto Area), residents and nationals who have visiting families with them , especially seniors, are feeling a bit relieved as the news reached many unofficially.

“My parents are above 70 and they are here to help us take care of our baby as we became new parents recently. I am very happy and relieved when I learnt the news that my parents can be vaccinated here. I have booked them for their first dose here in a York region clinic.” explained Sunithi Sharma, a resident of York Region.

While many are feeling relieved, a lot others are concerned as visitor visas are for six months only.  Elderly people need to make their way back home within this duration, while the vaccine dosage is spaced out in between 4 months, and automatic date is allotted for the second dose after the first dosage.

Nanda, a Peel Region resident, said: “My parents will leave at the end of May. I am concerned with the rising cases and want them to get vaccinated before they travel back home. However, the problem is the spread out of the dose. I am worried how they can procure their second dose before they travel.”

Presently visiting seniors above 70 years old can book their appointments in Toronto immunization clinics,  York Region clinics and Halton clinics. Contarily if you are a Durham resident, or Peel Resident you can get your elderly visitors vaccinated above 75  years age in any of the city immunization clinics.
