China doesn't support Western sanctions against Russia: Kremlin

Vladivostok, Apr 28 (Sputnik): China's cautious policies in its economic ties with Russia do not mean China supports Western sanctions against Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

"Yes, many Chinese banks and other economic structures are forced to take into consideration [Russia] restrictions imposed by the United States and other countries. We still live in an era of the interdependent economy. Chinese partners are often acting cautiously, but this does not mean that they support these sanctions," Peskov said during the "Moscow. Kremlin. Putin" program aired by the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

Relations between Moscow and the West deteriorated in 2014 after Crimea’s reunification with Russia and amid crisis in eastern Ukraine. The European Union and the United States have imposed restrictive measures against Russian individuals and companies, and Moscow has responded by imposing restrictions as well.

In late December, Russian Ambassador to Beijing Andrey Denisov said that Washington-introduced sanctions against Russia created "some difficulties" in the technical aspect of the Russian-Chinese cooperation, without affecting its pace and volume.
