COVID-19 boosted chance for Trudeau's Liberal Party to secure majority govt in Canada: Poll Tracker

Ottawa/IBNS: Canada's Liberal Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seems to enjoy great support at present, not seen post-2015 election, boosting his chance of securing a majority government in the country, media reports said citing the latest projections from the CBC's newly re-launched Poll Tracker.

Trudeau's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted the popularity of the Liberals, but the global pandemic itself is preventing him from scheduling a poll in the country in order to regain the majority he lost in the 2019 federal election.

According to the Poll Tracker's aggregation of all publicly available polls, 40.3 per cent of decided voters support the Liberals, an increase of over seven percentage points since the October vote.

The Conservatives, under outgoing leader Andrew Scheer, had taken a big hit in their support which dropped by six percentage points to 28.4 per cent.

While there has been a surge in the popularity of the Liberals, the Conservatives have slipped and the other parties have held steady.

The New Democrats are projected to get 15.6 per cent support and the Green Party's support is projected to be at 6.1 per cent.
