Vatican City, May 24 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday met Pope Francis at the Vatican.

This was his first meeting with the Pope after becoming the US President.

The visit to Vatican was the President's third leg of overseas trip.

The US President, who was elected to the post last year, arrived at the meeting with the religious leader with his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Trump had earlier tweeted: "Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East were great. Trying hard for PEACE. Doing well. Heading to Vatican & Pope, then #G7 and #NATO."

The US President had commenced his foreign visit with  two-day stop in Saudi Arabia on weekend.

He also visited Israel.

He is scheduled to fly to Brussels for a Nato summit later.
