Gas leakage at Karachi Chemical Factory, 70 hospitalised

Karachi/UNI: Gas leakage at a chemical plant in Karachi's Port Qasim area has caused at least 70 casualties in Karachi's Port Qasim area.

The leakage occurred at Engro Polymer and Chemicals Plant and an official statement of the company confirmed the leakage of chlorine gas through the vents of the company premises.

The statement also claimed that the matter was quickly contained, as those affected by the leakage were immediately administered first aid and taken to nearby medical facilities.

Reports confirmed that the victims of the gas leakage received treatment at the nearby Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Executive Director of the hospital Seemin Jamali said here.

The Dawn quoted Dr Jamali as saying that out of 70 victims of gas leak, who received treatment at the health facility, 55 were discharged after being given first aid, while 15 were still at the hospital.

She also confirmed that all the victims had experienced breathing problems, while many among them also experienced a burning sensation in their eyes.
