Colombo, Apr 6 (IBNS) : Indian Coast Guard Ship CGS Shoor has arrived the island nation on April 4 for a five-day visit to strengthen corporation between Sri Lankan and Indian coast guard operations.

The Indian High Commission sources said that the main objective of the ship’s visit is aimed at furthering cooperation and inter-operability between the Coast Guards of both the nations and to assist in capacity building of Sri Lankan Coast Guard.

Interaction between both the services has seen a steady increase over the years with three the visit of three ships to Sri Lanka  undertaken by the  Indian Coast Guard last year.

“ The operational exchange that takes place between both the Coast Guards has also served to build mutual trust and provide an opportunity to learn from each other,” the High Commission said.

CGS Shoor is an indigenously designed and constructed state-of-the art vessel that is designed to carry high speed boats for fast boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol.

The ship is also capable of carrying pollution response equipment to combat oil spill contamination at sea.

According to High Commission sources, during its visit, CGS Shoor will undertake a day-long sea training exercise for Sri Lankan Coast Guard officers and sailors on April l6.

More concern will be paid to have exercises on search and rescue, pollution control during the visit and a series of professional exchanges and sports fixtures have been also planned ashore between the Indian Coast Guard ships’ crew and Sri Lankan Coast Guard personnel.
