Justin Trudeau meets Afghan girl who was shot by her husband, accepted by Canada
Ottawa, Apr 6 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has met the Afghan girl who was shot by her husband in Afghanistan and accepted by Canada, media reports said.
Shakila Zareen was shot by her husband, with whom she was married to at an age of 17.
The torture upon her started from the very first night by her husband since their marriage.
Though Zareen went to police, she received no support.
When Zareen's husband came to know that she had reached the authority, he shot at her wife.
Zareen, who had survived the shooting, flew to India for treatment.
Though she was accepted by the US, later the acceptance was rescinded citing security reasons.
Canada then accepted Zareen along with her family members and handed over visa in a very short time.
Trudeau, who met Zareen as she returned to Vancouver two months ago, hugged her.
Reacting to her meet with the Canadian PM, Zareen told Global News, " I knew that he was a good guy, but when I met him in person, I realized that he’s amazing."
"I fought for my rights, for my sister’s rights, for other women’s rights" she added.
She has also thanked Trudeau for lending support to her.
Zareen now hopes to meet the PM again to tell her entire story.
