New York, Dec 24 (Just Earth News/IBNS) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday appointed Mahamat Saleh Annadif of Chad as the head of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali, and Christopher Coleman of the United States as the deputy head of the world body’s mission in Kosovo.

Annadif succeeds Mongi Hamdi of Tunisia, who will complete his assignment as Special Representative and head of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) on 14 January 2016.

Established by the Security Council in April 2013, MINUSMA supports political processes in Mali and carries out a number of security-related tasks, as well as supports the transitional authorities in the stabilization of the country and implementation of the transitional roadmap.

Coleman succeeds Jennifer Brush, also of the US, as Deputy Special Representative for the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

The Mission, set up in 1999, focuses primarily on the promotion of security, stability and respect for human rights in Kosovo.
