The New York  Police Department has released an image of a "person of interest" in connection with the  Brooklyn subway shooting incident that left over 20 people injured.

However, police said it is still not certain that the person was the attacker.

NYPD tweeted: " This is Frank James who is a person of interest in this investigation. Any information can be directed to @NYPDTips at 800-577-TIPS."

Police said they were looking for Frank R James, 62, in connection with the attack as he had rented a U-Haul van that may be linked to the shooting, reports BBC.

The key to the van, rented in Philadelphia, was found at the scene of the attack.

James has not been named as a suspect in the attack. Being identified as a person of interest means police believe he may have information concerning the crime, report BBC.
