Philippines church blasts kill at least 27 people
Manila, Jan 27 (IBNS): Twin blasts rocked a Roman Catholic cathedral in southern Philippines and left at least 27 people dead, media reports said on Sunday.
The first blast happened as Sunday Mass was being celebrated at the church on Jolo island, where Islamist militants are active, BBC reported.
The second blast took place in the car park when soldiers reportedly reached the spot after the first blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The victims have been identified as civilians.
Some of the wounded people were shifted to Zamboanga city for treatment.
Calling the attack a "dastardly act", Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana urged the local population to work with the authorities to "deny terrorism any victory", reported BBC.
