Manila, Jan 30 (IBNS): An explosion rocked a mosque in Zamboanga City of Philippines on Wednesday which left at least two people dead, media reports said.

The incident left four others hurt, reports said.

The Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) of the Armed Forces was quoted as saying by CNN that a grenade was thrown into the Kamalhadikaan Mosque in Sitio Logoy Diutay, Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City where a religious retreat was being held.

Zamboanga Peninsula Police Director C/Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup was quoted as saying by the American news channel that they still had to identify suspects and their motive in the crime.

Mosque explosions occur after an attack on Cathedral:

The latest incident occurred just days after twin explosions in a cathedral in Jolo, Sulu left 21 people dead.

The blasts left nearly 100 people injured.

Licup said there was not much evidence to link the two blasts.

"We cannot speculate. It's very hard to speculate kasi (because) some people are trying to connect it sa (to the) incident sa Jolo but wala pa tayong pwedeng sabihin, wala pang lead (we cannot say anything, we don't have a lead) to say really kung ano angmotive niyan (what the motive is)," he told CNN.
