Seoul, Mar 10 (IBNS): South Korean judges upheld the country's President Park Geun-hye's impeachment, removing her from office, the media reported on Friday.

The Constitutional Court upheld the decision by the South Korean National Assembly to impeach the President over a graft scandal.

President Park Geun-hye was impeached in December by the country's parliament and stripped of her presidential powers pending the court's judgment, media reported.

According to the South Korean Constitution, following the impeachment, an election must be held within 60 days to replace the President.

Leading Korean companies such as Samsung, a high-profile prosecutor and the head of the national pension fund have also been implicated in the bribery scandal that led to the President's impeachment, according to media reports.
