Washington: Ravinatha Aryasinha, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States, has urged overseas Sri Lankans in the US to contribute relief goods and make donations to help Sri Lanka when it is facing a disastrous Covid wave.

According to a report in Colombopage, the envoy, in a letter addressed to the community, said the immediate need is for ventilators, oxygen concentrators, high flow oxygen units, multi-parameter monitors, PPEs including N95 masks, telemedicine platforms which could be used by medical professionals in Sri Lanka.

In his letter, he also mentioned the country’s efforts to secure vaccines from the US. On Monday, the US had announced that it would share its extra stockpile of vaccines with developing countries. Sri Lankan officials are also making efforts to secure vaccines from that stock.

Furthermore, the Sri Lankan government is in talks with Johnson & Johnson to secure a deal for vaccines purchase. The country will also get vaccines from the WHO’s COVAX facility.
