UK Upper House passes bill to avoid No-Deal Brexit
London, Apr 9 (Sputnik/UNI) The House of Lords, the upper chamber of the UK parliament, passed a bill on Monday that seeks a delay to Brexit to stop a no-deal withdrawal.
"House of Lords passes EU Withdrawal 5 Bill and sends back to House of Commons. If Commons agrees Lords changes, bill gets royal assent and becomes law. If Commons disagrees or suggests alternative changes, the bill returns to the Lords," the peers tweeted.
The legislation, proposed by Labour’s Yvette Cooper, aims to force Prime Minister Theresa May to request an extension to Brexit, which is currently set for Friday. The intended new deadline is June 30.
