Zelenskiy demands strengthening sanctions against Russia
Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has urged strengthening of sanctions against Russia as they are having an impact on Moscow.
Fox News quoted the President as saying, "Sanctions definitely work, and Russia is definitely afraid of sanctions. It puts them out of comfort. It drops down their economy.
"But there's a question of how sanctions are working. We are showing and telling the United States and European leaders, everybody must work together quickly."
"They must have an impact on the oligarchs, on the President of Russia and on all the parties and on the country in general. The United States should continue working on this if the US would like to have successful negotiations," he added.
In a video address on Saturday, Zelenskiy warned his citizens that the retreating Russian forces were creating "a complete disaster" outside the capital Kyiv by leaving mines across "the whole territory," including around homes and corpses, The Guardian reported.
He pointed out that the Russian forces were withdrawing slowly but noticeably from around Kyiv and Chernihiv.
"They are mining the whole territory. They are mining homes, mining equipment, even the bodies of people who were killed. There are a lot of trip wires, and a lot of other dangers," he added.
