Chennai, Aug 7 (IBNS): In a conflict with the AIADMK government, the DMK moved the High Court over the state's denial to allow the burial of the mortal remains of former Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, who passed away on Tuesday, at Chennai's Marina Beach.

The DMK had requested the state government to allow Karunanidhi's burial on the same land where former Chief Ministers- CM Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa- were covered.

Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh will hear the DMK's petition at 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

Karunanidhi passed away at 6-10 pm, Kauvery Hospital in Chennai where he was admitted, confirmed.

During Karunanidhi's political life in the last few decades, his formidable opposition was AIADMK's J Jayalalithaa, who passed away in late 2016.

Karunanidhi's political career was not free of controversies as several corruption charges were levelled against him and his party and family members, many of whom joined politics.

His son M K Stalin is his political successor.
