Kapurthala/IBNS: A second man has been killed on allegations of sacrilege in less than 24 hours after the accused in a similar incident was beaten to death in Amritsar's Golden Temple.

Residents of Nijampur village in Kapurthala district caught the man from a gurdwara early this morning on allegations that he was found found " disrespecting" Nishan Sahib (the Sikh flag) around 4 am, reported NDTV.

While cops were taking him to the local police station, the people gathered there insisted that he be questioned in front of them.

He was beaten to death after an altercation with the police.

Cellphone videos from the spot showed the man being beaten up with sticks. The police later took him to the hospital where he was declared dead, according to NDTV.

On Saturday evening, a man was beaten to death by an irate mob after an alleged sacrilege attempt in the sanctum sanctorum of the holy Golden Temple.

The accused crossed the barrier inside the temple when Rahiras Sahib (evening prayers) was going on.

He tried to pick the historical sword, placed in front of the Guru Granth Sahib as a mark of respect but was stopped by the alert sewadars of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the body which controls the management of the gurdwaras.

When he was being taken out of the holy shrine to the SGPC office complex, the angry mob beat him black and blue and he died on the spot.

Senior police officers reached the spot and started an investigation.
