Cuttack/IBNS: At least 10 patients died and 11 staff members were injured after a fire broke out at a state-run hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, early Monday morning, media reports said.

The fire erupted in the trauma care centre ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack at around 2:30–3:00 am.

Multiple fire engines were rushed to the hospital, one of the largest government medical facilities in the state, as rescue and evacuation operations were launched.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi visited the hospital to assess the situation and said he had directed the administration to provide all necessary assistance to those affected.

“All relevant departments and teams are working continuously with full coordination. At this sensitive time, I am grateful to him for his compassionate concern and assurance of necessary assistance,” Majhi wrote on X.

A judicial probe has been ordered into the incident.

Majhi also announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the families of the deceased.

The Chief Minister said he was contacted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi whom he updated about the "emergency measures" and the "evacuation process" undertaken by the government to tackle the situation.
