Kolkata/IBNS: One of the main accused in a West Bengal-based illegal coal mining scam- Anoop Majhi alias Lala, who had been absconding since the probe into the case was initiated, on Tuesday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Kolkata.

Lala appeared before the CBI five days after the Supreme Court had granted an interim stay order on his arrest, officials said.

According to reports, Lala arrived at the CBI office at Nizam Palace in Kolkata at around 11 am on Tuesday and he is being grilled and his statement is being recorded.

Since the illegal coal mining racket was busted, the CBI as well as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had served multiple summons to businessman Anoop Majhi and later a manhunt was launched by the probe agencies to nab Majhi as he skipped all the summons and went untraceable.

Later, Anoop Majhi alias Lala had moved to the Supreme Court and the apex court on Mar 25 issued an interim stay order on his arrest till the next date of hearing which has been scheduled to be held on Apr 6.

The court also directed Lala to attend CBI interrogation and to cooperate with the investigation agencies in the probe.
