From missing person to murder: Agra woman held after husband's body found buried at home
A woman has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Agra for allegedly murdering her husband and burying his body beneath the bathroom floor of their home in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.
The victim, identified as Surendra Sharma, had been missing for the past 45 days.
The case took a dramatic turn when police, acting on growing suspicions raised during the investigation, dug up the bathroom floor and recovered his body.
Body recovered from beneath bathroom floor
Police, assisted by workers, broke through a layer of plaster covering the bathroom floor before exhuming the body.
The remains have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death.
Investigators said they are also examining whether the accused received assistance in carrying out the murder or hiding the body.
Wife allegedly misled investigators
According to police, the accused, identified as Ruby, allegedly attempted to divert suspicion by actively participating in the search for her missing husband.
Officials said she frequently broke down in tears before neighbours and projected herself as a distraught wife desperate to find her husband.
However, investigators began to question her account after Surendra Sharma's brother pointed out several inconsistencies in her version of the events surrounding his disappearance.
The information prompted police to intensify their investigation, eventually leading them to the family's bathroom, where the body was found buried beneath the floor.
Probe into possible accomplices
Police said they are now investigating whether anyone else was involved in the murder or helped Ruby dispose of the body and cover up the crime.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the investigation continues.
Echoes of the 'blue drum' murder case
The case bears similarities to the sensational "blue drum" murder case reported earlier this year.
In February 2025, merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput was allegedly murdered by his wife, Muskaan Rajput, and her alleged lover, Sahil.
Investigators claimed the duo dismembered his body and sealed the remains inside a blue plastic drum filled with cement in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Police are continuing their investigation into the Agra case while awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide crucial forensic evidence.
