All monuments under ASI to remain shut till May 15: Centre
New Delhi/IBNS: As the country struggles to combat the massive spike in coronavirus cases, the government decided to shut all centrally-protected monuments and museums, including the Taj Mahal, Red Fort and Ajanta Caves, till May 15.
The situation would be reviewed after May 15 and a decision would be taken then whether to extend the closure.
“All centrally protected monuments, museums and sites under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have been closed with immediate effect till May 15 due to the surge in coronavirus cases in the country," the Ministry of Culture announced as quoted in media reports.
“Due to the prevailing COVID situation, it has been decided to close all centrally protected monuments, sites and museums under the ASI with immediate effect and till May 15 or until further orders,” the ASI said.
Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced a weekend curfew in Delhi to contain the surge of Covid-19 infection.
In a grim situation, India registered 2,00,739 new Covid-19 cases between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, marking the largest daily increase since the start of the outbreak.
