Kolkata/IBNS: BJP leader and West Bengal's Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, on Friday wrote to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan demanding an investigation by a Central agency into the recently busted fake Covid-19 vaccination drive in Kolkata, reports said on Saturday.

"While Kolkata Police has reportedly started investigating into the fraud, several incriminating photos suggestive of the accused Debanjan Deb's influence in the ruling party of West Bengal have come to the fore," Suvendu Adhikari wrote in the two-page letter.

"In such a situation with so many influential ruling party leaders and government representatives being seen in close proximity to the accused, we have serious doubts about an impartial investigation from Kolkata Police that follows the instructions of the same government," Adhikari added.

"An impartial investigation by Central agencies, undaunted by any pressure from the state's ruling party or government, is the need of the hour to restore the credibility of the entire Covid vaccination process in West Bengal," the letter read.

Earlier on Friday, Suvendu Adhikari met the state's health secretary to discuss the matter with him.

Days ago, TMC Jadavpur MP Mimi Chakraborty had unearthed a fake vaccination drive organized by Debanjan Deb after she was allegedly duped by it and even got jabbed.

The city police arrested Debanjan Deb, and seized his vehicle with blue beacon and fake stickers and Biswa Bangla flag, and his fake KMC identity card.

Kolkata Police already carried out a raid at the office of Debanjan in Kolkata's Kasba area and seized several documents, injection vials, and electronic data from the location.

Senior city police officials said that a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the large-scale fraud.

Meanwhile, local authorities have already confirmed that Debanjan's team was injecting antibiotics which had no connection with either the Covid-19 or its vaccination.

A senior official with the KMC said that samples of the vials seized from Debanjan's possession had been sent to a forensic science laboratory for tests.

Meanwhile, demanding a CBI probe into the fake vaccination drive organized by fake IAS officer Debanjan Deb, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Calcutta High Court which is likely to be heard next week.
