Chhattisgarh: Four Naxalites killed in encounter, SHO martyred

Raipur/UNI: Four Naxalites were gunned down with bounty on their heads in an encounter that broke out last night in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh while one SHO was martyred in retaliatory firing, the police said on Saturday.

Acting on information about presence of Naxalites in jungles of Madanwada area in Rajnandgaon, the security forces cordoned off the area, Director General of Police DM Awasthi said. In the meantime Naxalites started indiscriminate firing.

Security forces retaliated by firing on Naxalites. During a prolonged gun battle between Naxalites and security forces the Madanwada SHO Shyam Kishor Sharma sustained bullet injuries and got martyred.

During search after end of firing from Naxalites, bodies of four Naxalites with bounty onb their heads were seen lying. Dead Naxalites included two men and two women. Police recovered one AK 47 rifle, one SLR and a 12-bore firearm from the site.

Madanwada has been worst affected by Naxalite violence. The area came into the limelight in the country in the year 2009 when 29 police personnel including the then Superintendent of Police of Rajnandgaon were killed during an encounter with Naxalites.
