Contraband drugs worthRs 8.50 crore seized in Manipur’s Moreh

Guwahati: Thetroops of Assam Rifles and Manipur police have seized contraband drugs worthover Rs 8.50 crore in Manipur’s Moreh area along Indo-Myanmar border in last 72hours.

A Manipur police team on Friday evening had seized huge quantity of WY tablets, brown sugar worth over Rs 5.18 crore and arrested a cadre of Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) along Moreh-Imphal route in Tengnoupal district.

Tengnoupal district Superintendent of Police (SP) Th. Vikramjit Singh said that, an Eeco Van travelling from Moreh towards Imphal was signaled to stop by a Commando team of Tengnoupal district police as a part of prevention measures of against drug.

“Seeing the alertness of the Commando team, two persons who were travelling from Moreh ran towards hills slope and left the vehicle near Tengnoupal Vally bridge. Immediately the Commando team chassed them and able to apprehend one person identified as Manghaothang Zou (32) of Churachandpur district. The Commando team had recovered 50,000 pieces of WY tablets weighing 4.922 kg and six Packets of brown sugar weighing 79 grams. The Ecco Van along with the contraband drugs and the arrested person were handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further legal action,” the top Manipur cop said.

The arrested person is identified as a cadre of ZRA militant group.

Earlier, the troops of 20th battalion of Assam Rifles had seized huge quantity of brown sugar worth over Rs 3.32 crore and arrested one drug peddler from the Moreh area on June 4.
