Delhi cabinet approves Rs 1 cr compensation to Ankit Sharma's family

New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi Cabinet Monday approved a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the kin of Ankit Sharma, the Intelligence Bureau(IB) official who was brutally murdered during the north-east Delhi riots in February.

The decision to grant the compensation was taken in the first week of March.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement on his Twitter handle.

"IB Official Ankit Sharma was brutally murdered in the Delhi riots. We had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for his family members. Today, the cabinet approved the decision. There has been a delay due to the coronavirus situation. Hopefully, his family will receive the money within this week," Kejriwal tweeted.

Sharma worked as a security assistant in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and was a resident of Chand Bagh, one of the worst hit areas during the Delhi riots.

His body, with multiple marks of stabbing, was fished out of a canal on Feb 26.

Delhi Police had arrested one person in connection with the murder. Earlier, his family had accused suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain for the murder. He was later arrested based on their complaint.
