Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia takes charge of Health Ministry

New Delhi/UNI: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday temporarily took charge of the health ministry and other departments allocated to Health Minister Satyendar Jain after the latter tested positive for Coronavirus.

Jain was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital, Delhi (RGSSH) on Monday night with high-grade fever and a sudden drop in oxygen levels.

He tested positive for the infection on Wednesday.

His samples had first tested negative on Tuesday.

Sisodia will handle the Health portfolio until Jain returns to work.

One of the most trusted cabinet colleagues of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sisodia already holds several other key departments, including Ministry of Finance and Education.

Apart from the Health Ministry, Jain also holds portfolios which include Health, Industries, Home, Public Work Department, Power, Urban Development, and Transport.

Jain, on Sunday, attended a high-level meeting on National Capital’s Coronavirus situation convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Randeep Guleria and several senior officials of the Center and Delhi were also present at the meeting.

Jain had been actively visiting Covid-19 designated hospitals and interacting with officials on enhancing the city’s preparedness for spread of the virus till Monday.
