Govt to open 1K additional Mandis for farmers: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Patna/UNI: Union Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that 1,000 additional Mandis will be established across the country to help the farmers to sell their produce digitally with just one click while lauding the farmers for doing business worth Rs 1.40 lakh crore through the platform.

Mr Prasad, while speaking on the Union budget 2021-22, told newspersons here that provisions of eNAM have been made for the farmers, who can now sell their produce anywhere in the country by pressing a button from their place.

Appreciating the farmers for adopting innovative farming, he said that ryots in Aurangabad of Bihar producing strawberry and farmers in Kishanganj producing pineapples can now conveniently sell their yield in the market anywhere in the country, just at one click.

Keeping in mind the benefits of eNAM and enthused with its performances the government has made the provision of setting up additional 1000 Mandis for the convenience of farmers, he said.

He further said that provisions have also been made for providing digital ownership card to the farmers across the country and Rs 16.5 lakh crore have been earmarked in the budget for agricultural loan.

Mr Prasad said the Union government is giving Rs 6000 annually to  every farmers in the country and so far 90,000 ryots have been provided with the compensation under the Crop Insurance scheme.
