Indian troops reinforced In Ladakh after Chinese army increases activity along LAC

New Delhi/IBNS: India has increased monitoring in Ladakh and reinforcement of forces with reports alerting Delhi on China increasing activity near river Galwan -- a 1962 flashpoint that witnessed face-off between Chinese and Indian troops, said a media report.

In the last few days, China has increased presence Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto border between the two, which has forced India to increase its strength, said an NDTV report.

According to the NDTV, reports reaching New Delhi have said Chinese have set up tents near the Galwan river, where an Indian army post was surrounded by the Chinese army leading to escalation and one of the triggers of 1962 Sino-India war."

"We are also compelled to increase our presence along that area as in last few days numbers of soldiers across the LAC have increased," said a senior official in Government of India, the report stated.

"It is normal but as it has gone well beyond a week, we are also reinforcing ourselves," he said, pointing out the cause of worry for the government.

Last week, Army Chief General MM Naravane said: "You are coming to know where face-off has occurred. Daily, we are meeting at 10 different places which is absolutely business as normal. It is only at one or two places where this has happened. And this does happen from time to time. It also happens when there is a change of commanders on ground."

Demchok in eastern Ladakh also witnessed an increase in tension indicated by Chinese construction activity.

The NDTV report stated an official said that the recent face-offs in Sikkim and Ladakh are no coincidences, and added: "There are indications that the current border conflict with Nepal over a road to Lipulekh pass has silent support from Beijing."
