'Kaali' row: FIR filed against Mohua Moitra, filmmaker Leena Manimekalai in Delhi

New Delhi/UNI: The Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for her alleged objectionable remarks on Goddess Kali during a television discussion.

A complaint was also filed against filmmaker Leena Manimekalai and others for allegedly hurting the "religious sentiments".

The complaint was filed at Parliament Street Police Station by Delhi BJP vice president Ranjan Tewari and spokesperson Harish Khurana against them.

They have urged the Delhi Police to register cases under Section 295, 505 (2), 509, 153(B) and 120B of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 66 and 67 of the IT Act for allegedly hurting the sentiments of a community.

On the alleged remarks of the TMC parliamentarian, they said, "The statement is in itself provocative and insulting remarks against Maa Kaali and hurting sentiments of worshippers of the goddess and Hindu religion."

On Leena, who received a barrage of condemnation after she shared a poster of her documentary film ‘Kaali’ which shows the Goddess smoking, they said, "Nowadays there are many radical associations that are getting foreign funds to disturb the religious harmony of our country. "

The complainant also urged cyber teams to expose the person behind it and stop the circulation of the poster immediately on social media.

Delhi Police already registered a case in this regard earlier this week.

"A complaint was received by Delhi Police regarding a poster... Prima facie, an offence under Section 153-A/295-A IPC was made out and a case has been registered at Special Cell," Delhi Police had said in a statement on Tuesday.
