New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for Seychelles to attend the island nation's National Day celebrations, marking the beginning of his official visit.

Visit coincides with Seychelles' Golden Jubilee

Calling the visit "even more special", Modi said Seychelles will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year, making the occasion particularly significant.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said: "Seychelles is a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in our Vision MAHASAGAR, as well as in advancing the interests of the Global South.

"I look forward to discussions with my friend, Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles."

To address National Assembly, meet Indian community

Modi said he is honoured to address the National Assembly of Seychelles during the visit.

"I am honoured to be addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles during the visit. I also look forward to meeting the Indian community there," he added.

Focus on bilateral ties

The visit is expected to further strengthen India-Seychelles ties, particularly in maritime cooperation, regional security, and New Delhi's Vision MAHASAGAR initiative, while reinforcing collaboration on issues concerning the Global South.
